Be careful what you Wish for!

The other day I was talking to my hubby about pumpkins. We are thinking about planting a small vegetable garden this year. I had asked him if we could maybe plant some pumpkins. I have never planted them before. He told me they take up alot of room and that we just don't have the space to do both. I was a little disappointed. I wished so hard that I could have my own little pumpkin patch.

A few days ago, the sun way shining and it was so nice out, I decided to maybe pull some weeds. Out in front of my house I have this small area that I plant some annuals around this tree. In the fall that is where I place an arrangement all all kinds of real pumpkins and gourds in the fall. I walked over towards the tree and underneath I saw some weeds. When I got a little closer, it wasn't what I thought it was. I look and I look again. I realized that it was the start of a pumpkin growing. I realized that there were all kinds of seeds on the ground. I was so excited to see this. I am going to have my own little pumpkin patch this year. The bad part is it is going to be in the front yard. But I refuse to pull the plants. I can't wait to see how many I get.

I'm sure my hubby won't like it. When he mows the grass, I am sure the vines will get in the way later this summer. I might have to take over the mowing this summer just so I get to keep my little patch of pumpkins.

So just remember, Wishes do come true!!!!

I know Kristen! I can't wait to see what happens. I just hope it wont take over the front yard. You know how pumpkins can be.

Keep your fingers crossed that it goes o.k. I just adore pumpkins and I don't want them to go away.

The pumpkin fairy granted your wish! I wonder if you could train it up on a trellis of some sort.

hi kiM!

Maybe you could transplant them before they get too big and before you husband accidentally mows them over.:(

Hi guys, I think I will have to transplant them. I was hoping I wouldn't have to do that. But my hubby said they will get to big where they are at.

I hope I don't kill them when I do that. Oh well. If it is ment to be then it is.

This happens to me all the time - I think "wouldn't it be nice to have this plant or that plant in the garden" and that season it shows up all by itself. Right now I have a compost pile that's growing a zillion pumpkin plants. I'm not sure whether to let them grow there and hope for the best or move some of them somewhere else and hope it doesn't kill them.
If you're worried about mowing around them, you can train them to grow up ladders or frames or even up the tree. They're vines and they don't mind climbing, although you have to support the heavy "fruit". We had a pumpkin plant grow through the fence and into our neighbor's tree one year. He was the nicest man and he gave all the pumpkins little hammocks to keep them from breaking and then gave all the pumpkins back to your then young kids. It was cool to watch the "pumpkin tree" grow all summer too.
